Ballrooms and Indoor Spaces

• Grand Expo Ballroom: The biggest of the indoor spaces, with an attached private terrace — great for couples hosting a large reception who still want an easy indoor/outdoor flow for cocktail hour or late-night air.
• Cypress Ballroom: My favorite of the classic ballrooms to shoot — soaring ceilings and large windows give a lot more natural light than most resort ballrooms, which makes a real difference for portraits and reception coverage.
• Navajo Ballroom: A more refined, modern space, well suited to mid-sized receptions with a cleaner, contemporary look.
• Conference Center Ballroom: Highly flexible — I’ve shot everything from smaller gatherings to large crowds in this room depending on how it’s configured.

Clubhouse and Outdoor Spaces

• The Shenendoah Clubhouse: Rustic-elegant, with a striking stone fireplace and views over the golf course — one of the better spots on property for a warmer, more intimate reception feel.
• The Great Lawn at The Lodge: A manicured outdoor garden space I’ve shot several ceremonies in — it photographs beautifully in good weather and gives a real change of pace from the indoor ballrooms.
• Grand Expo Courtyard: A large open-air courtyard, good for outdoor ceremonies or cocktail hour with a bigger guest list.
• Exit 33 Courtyard: A more modern, urban-style outdoor space — a nice option for couples who want something a little different from the traditional resort-garden look.

The property’s layout makes for smooth transitions between ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception — generally, cocktail hour has its own dedicated room, and guests then move into the reception space once it’s ready.

Turning Stone is a big, layered property, and shooting it well takes real familiarity with the space. There are windowless ballrooms, a mix of indoor and outdoor areas, and the property itself is expansive — knowing how to move between locations efficiently, and where the best light is in each room, makes a real difference to how the day flows.

Photographing weddings here means balancing efficiency with storytelling — capturing the scale of a resort celebration alongside the quieter, personal moments that happen in between.
