How to get the most out of your Business, Corporate and Executive Head Shots and Portrait Photography Session
Over the many years of photographing Syracuse business and corporate head shots, I have became well aware of the importance of conveying interesting and natural looking facial expressions while being photographed. During this time I have been honing this craft of coaching my subjects to produce both realistic and flattering facial expressions and images. During our session, I will teach you to bring out the subtleties of the human face that attract us to certain people and images.
My goal is to take a photograph that makes you look your best. The head shot session will be geared toward creating a marketing tool that will help you to capture attention from industry professionals. I focus on using your own natural expressions as well as creativity. I will help guide you towards achieving a head shot that helps represent your line of business as well as an image that stands out among the crowd.
Before our session begins, share your intentions for what you would like to achieve in this head shot session. Let me know what kind of look you want and where the photo will be seen.
What to wear – Men:
Wear clothes that are comfortable and that make you feel good. I suggest you bring a few options. By new clothes specifically for the shoot. New clothes always make us feel better!
For business attire you may want to bring a couple outfits or jackets. Don’t worry about pants or shoes if we will only be photographing from the chest up.
Avoid busy patterns and large lines/stripes unless they will be covered with a solid or subtle patterned jacket. Lines and patterns distract from the face. We want your face to be the center of attention.. not the necklace or awesome shirt. Simple is better.
A casual business look is often a jacket and open dress shirt, shirt and tie (no jacket), or dress shirt on it’s own
Polo shirts may be appropriate for some businesses.
I personally do not suggest white dress shirt by itself- unless you plan to wear it underneath a jacket.
Don’t wear overly styled shirts with lots of details, lines or patterns. They distract from the face.
What to wear – Women:

Necklines can change the shape of a face that is one reason I suggest bringing a variety different shirts/blouses as options for the photo session.
Jewelry:
Keep jewelry extremely simple – smaller is generally better
Avoid jewelry that would distract from your face or cause too much sparkle
What to bring:
Hair Brush, Make up, hair products, etc..
Fun and playful attitude. Don’t be so serious or overly self-conscious. I will be taking a lot of photos. Be dynamic and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The more fun and dynamic you are, the more options you will have when choosing a photo.
Arrive with:
Hair styled and makeup already applied
Wearing first outfit for first head shot
Makeup Tips:
Make-up should be clean and natural looking. Don’t put on too much
Avoid shimmers or products with lots of sparkle or shine. The lights will pick up on the glitter and wreak havoc on the images
One of the most important things is to share your intentions for the photo session. Let me know what kind of look you want.
Don’t be afraid to practice at home in front of a mirror. Practice poses and expressions… especially true for models looking to build a portfolio. You want to be loose and get a dynamic range of looks. So be playful and have fun.
Do not drink alcohol or take any drugs directly before or the night before your shoot. This will end up making you look tired.
Drink lots of water and be well rested.
Please arrive on time, ready for your first shot.
